A top dermatologist is breaking out to share the best way to pop a pimple.
Experts strongly advise against popping pimples, no matter how much you want them to go away, but if you really can’t resist, here’s the best way to do it.
Dermatology Dr. Mamina Turegano revealed the four-step way to drain that suction “the right way.”
“I know it’s hard to keep from getting pimples because it feels like they’re staring right at you every time you look in the mirror,” Turegano said in an Instagram video.
The triple-certified dermatologist noted that her fellow skin experts don’t recommend squeezing a cavity, but admitted that she knows many people do it anyway and wants to help people do it in a clean way. and safe.
Tuergano instructed acne sufferers to start by trying to get rid of a pimple with an over-the-counter medical treatment or pimple patch before trying to squeeze the pimple.
If the whitehead still looks like it’s ready to fall off, start the pimple popping process by sterilizing your hands and area with rubbing alcohol.
Then prick the pimple with a diabetic needle, which has a very small needle, to open the surface with a small puncture that “won’t cause too much damage.”
Once the area has been punctured, apply very light pressure with two cotton swabs to let the contents drain.
“When a pimple pops, it’s very important not to apply too much pressure, otherwise you’ll have more inflammation and result in scarring,” advised Turegano.
She also cautioned against getting confused with any acne that appears in the “triangle of death” — the area in the center of the face that runs from the nose to the bottom corners of the mouth.
NYC Board Certified Dermatologist, Dr. Mark Strom recently took to TikToK to reveal that the “triangle of death” is the only place on his face where he would never get a pimple.
“Pimples in the center of the face can be particularly dangerous. The area of the face from the bridge of the nose to the corners of the mouth has veins that connect directly to the brain via a blood vessel called the cavernous sinus,” he said.
Strom explains that traumatizing the skin in this critical area can lead to “an infection in the bloodstream.”
This infection can be carried directly to the brain, in rare cases causing death.
Strom notes that while mortality is unlikely, the threat of dying from pimples is enough to make him avoid popping any pimples in the center of his face.
“Really, don’t mess with him. Treat it or see a skin,” insisted Tuergano.
